Hi! I’m Yvonne and I’m so excited to be joining Mind by Design as a Literacy Specialist. I’ve spent the last 7 years working in elementary education, with a focus on early literacy and language development.
I have taught kindergarten and first grade, including serving as a founding teacher in a Spanish Dual Language program where I taught students foundational skills in both languages. I’m passionate about helping students become confident, lifelong readers while also helping them feel proud of who they are and where they come from. Currently, I serve as a Literacy Specialist at Mind By Design.
Educational Background:
I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish Studies and my Master of Arts Degree in Education at the University of San Francisco. During that time, I also received my Multiple Subject Credential, as well as my Bilingual Authorization in Spanish. My career in education has evolved from being a classroom teacher to my current position as a Literacy Specialist at Mind by Design.
Professional Passion:
I’ve always known I wanted to work with children, and I truly believe that every student can learn, grow, and feel successful. I’m passionate about using individualized, engaging strategies to help students build strong literacy skills and confidence as lifelong learners. I strive to create a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to take risks, celebrate their growth, and develop a genuine love of learning. I can’t wait to get to know all my students and build lasting relationships with our community. Hopefully I can have a part in helping develop a love of literature!
Beyond the Office:
When I'm not at work, you'll most likely catch me with a book (or multiple). I’m constantly reading, sometimes juggling more books than I can handle! I love spending time at second-hand bookstores, working out, and hanging out with my husband and our two cats.
