Educational/IEP Coaching

Having in-depth knowledge of public education, we help families at whatever point they need immediate support.  We empower families with knowledge about the inner workings of the educational system, we discuss options if their student is struggling, and consider the needs of the family at that point.  No question is too simple.  We value helping reduce anxiety and providing a family with some action steps.  Some examples of questions or concerns include:

  • “My child’s teacher says she’s struggling with reading.  What should I do?”

  • “My student’s teacher says he’s having difficulty sitting still in class.”

  • “We just had a Student Study Team meeting but I don’t know what happens next.”

  • “I am having trouble understanding the IEP process.”

  • “What does all of this information on these reports mean?”

  • “Help me understand my student’s IEP document.”

  • “I don’t think I agree with a part of this IEP…what should I do?”

  • “I don’t feel like my student’s IEP is being followed…what should I do?”

  • “What’s the difference between a 504 Plan and an IEP?”

  • “My child is struggling in private school…what should I do?”

  • “My student is struggling with math…who should I contact for after school tutoring?”

  • “My student is struggling with his mood and behavior.  What resources exist in the community to help him?”

Our goal is to help answer questions, reduce anxiety, empower parents with knowledge and actionable steps, and promote collaborative work with school teams.  Typically consultations are successful in one to two hours. If families need ongoing advocacy or legal assistance, we refer to community resources.
