MIND BY DESIGN
Therapy for Children, Teens & Families in Morgan Hill
From assessment to action, your child's next step starts with a therapist who knows the whole picture.
You already know something feels off. Maybe your child's teacher flagged a concern, or the assessment you just completed confirmed what you suspected; your child needs more than a diagnosis on paper.
They need someone in their corner, week after week, helping them build the skills, the confidence, and the emotional vocabulary to thrive at school and at home. In Morgan Hill and South County, finding that person has been frustratingly difficult. The waitlists are long, the providers are sparse, and most practices treat assessment and therapy as completely separate tracks, forcing you to retell your child's story from scratch.
Mind by Design was built to close that gap. We are the same team of educational psychologists and specialists who conduct the assessments families throughout the South Bay trust. Now, with dedicated therapy services at our Morgan Hill office, your child can move from evaluation to ongoing support without losing momentum or context. Our therapists work alongside the clinicians who tested your child, which means recommendations from the assessment report don't sit in a drawer; they become the foundation of a living, evolving treatment plan.
This is strengths-based therapy designed for real families in Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and San Martin. We focus on what your child can do and build from there, because progress doesn't start with a label; it starts with a relationship. Whether your child is managing anxiety around school, struggling with emotional regulation, or navigating the social landscape of adolescence, our Morgan Hill practice offers a private, compassionate space where growth is the goal, and your family is part of the process.
Our Services
Mind by Design's Morgan Hill therapy practice provides individual therapy for children and teens, family therapy, and parent coaching, all under one roof.
Individual sessions address challenges such as anxiety and excessive worry, difficulty managing emotions or anger, social struggles with peers, attention and focus difficulties, oppositional or avoidant behaviors, and academic avoidance rooted in underlying emotional concerns.
Family therapy brings parents and siblings into the room to strengthen communication patterns, reduce household friction, and align everyone around shared goals. Parent coaching equips you with concrete strategies to reinforce your child's progress between sessions and navigate the school system with confidence.
Every engagement begins with a free 15-minute consultation call so we can learn about your child's needs and confirm that our practice is the right fit. If we move forward together, the next step is an intake session, a 60- to 90-minute deep dive where your therapist reviews your child's history, any existing assessment data, and your family's goals. From there, ongoing sessions are scheduled weekly or biweekly at 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on your child's age and clinical needs. Most families engage in therapy for 8 to 18 months, though the pace is always driven by your child's progress, not a rigid timeline.
What makes this practice different is continuity. If your child was evaluated by Mind by Design, whether at our Campbell or Morgan Hill office, your therapist already has access to the full picture: cognitive profile, processing strengths, academic recommendations, and diagnostic context. That means less time catching up and more time doing the work. For families new to Mind by Design, our therapists collaborate with your child's school team, pediatrician, or outside providers to build the same integrated understanding.
Sessions take place in person at our Morgan Hill office at 17300 Monterey Rd, Unit 300. We offer weekday appointments from 4:00 to 8:00 PM to accommodate school schedules, with select daytime availability for younger school-age children. Telehealth may be available on a case-by-case basis for ongoing clients when clinically appropriate.
Take the First Step for Your Child
Key Benefits
-
Most families experience a jarring disconnect between the clinician who evaluates their child and the therapist who treats them. You invest hours in testing, receive a detailed report, and then start over with a new provider who has never met your child. At Mind by Design, that gap does not exist. Our Morgan Hill therapy services are delivered by clinicians who work within the same practice that conducts psychoeducational and school neuropsychological assessments across the South Bay. When your child's therapist can walk down the hall and consult with the educational psychologist who wrote the evaluation, recommendations become action, not a to-do list collecting dust.
This integrated model is especially valuable for children with complex profiles, those with co-occurring ADHD and anxiety, learning disabilities paired with emotional regulation challenges, or autism spectrum presentations that affect both academics and social development. Instead of compartmentalizing your child's needs, our team sees the full landscape and communicates in real time. Assessment findings inform therapy goals. Therapy observations feed back into updated recommendations for school accommodations. Parent coaching sessions draw on insights from both sides. The result is a coherent support system built around one child, not fragmented across providers who never speak to each other.
For families in Morgan Hill and South County, where access to specialized providers is limited, this level of coordination eliminates the logistical burden of managing multiple practices. One location, one team, one shared understanding of your child, that is what continuity of care looks like in practice.

A diagnosis can be clarifying, but it should never become the whole story. At Mind by Design, our therapeutic approach begins with what your child does well and builds outward from there. We believe that every child has areas of genuine capability, cognitive strengths, creative instincts, social gifts, or resilience they may not even recognize in themselves yet. Our therapists identify those strengths early and use them as the foundation for tackling harder challenges, because children engage more deeply and sustain more progress when therapy feels empowering rather than remedial.
This matters practically. A child who has been told they "have ADHD" may internalize that as a permanent limitation. A child who learns they have a fast, creative brain that needs specific strategies for organization and self-regulation starts to see themselves differently, as capable, not broken. Our clinicians help children and teens reframe their experiences, develop metacognitive awareness, and practice emotional regulation tools that fit their unique wiring. Family therapy sessions extend this philosophy to parents and siblings, helping the entire household shift from a deficit mindset to a growth-oriented one.
For Morgan Hill families who have just completed an assessment, this approach ensures the transition to therapy does not feel like "more bad news." It feels like the beginning of a clear, hopeful path forward, grounded in evidence, personalized to your child, and focused on the outcomes that matter most to your family.

If you have searched for a child therapist in Morgan Hill, you already know the reality: there are almost no dedicated child and family mental health providers serving South County. Families in Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and San Martin have historically faced a choice between long drives north to San Jose or Campbell and lengthy waitlists with the few local providers who accept children. Mind by Design's Morgan Hill office was opened to serve exactly this gap, bringing the same quality of specialized child and family services available in Silicon Valley's urban core to a community that has been underserved for years.
Our Morgan Hill location at 17300 Monterey Rd sits centrally in the community, easily accessible from Highway 101 for families coming from Gilroy or San Martin. Afternoon and evening appointment times are structured around school schedules, so your child does not have to miss class. For younger children who attend half-day programs, we offer select daytime sessions as well. The office environment is designed to feel approachable and safe, not like a hospital or a sterile clinical suite, because the space itself matters when you are asking a child to open up about hard things.
By planting roots in Morgan Hill, Mind by Design is making a long-term commitment to this community. We are not a satellite office staffed one day a week. This is a fully operational practice location with dedicated clinicians who build lasting relationships with the children and families they serve.
-
Therapy that only happens in one room, one hour a week, has limited reach. The most meaningful progress happens when the skills your child practices in session are reinforced at home, at school, and in the daily rhythms of family life. That is why Mind by Design offers family therapy and parent coaching as integral components of our Morgan Hill practice, not afterthoughts or add-ons, but core services designed to work alongside your child's individual therapy.
In family therapy sessions, parents and siblings step into the therapeutic space together. These sessions focus on improving communication patterns, reducing conflict around homework or daily routines, and building a shared language for talking about emotions and needs. When a child learns to name their frustration in session but comes home to a household that has not been given the same vocabulary, the skill fades. Family therapy bridges that gap and turns isolated insights into household-wide change.
Parent coaching sessions provide a dedicated space for you, without your child present, to ask questions, process your own feelings about your child's challenges, and develop specific strategies for supporting their development. Whether you need help understanding an IEP, managing bedtime resistance, or simply want reassurance that you are on the right track, our team meets you with empathy and actionable guidance. For Morgan Hill families juggling work, school logistics, and the emotional weight of a child's struggles, knowing you have a knowledgeable partner in your corner can transform the experience from overwhelming to manageable.
-
Mind by Design's Morgan Hill therapy team includes pre-licensed associate therapists who work under the direct supervision of experienced, licensed clinicians. This model allows us to offer the attentive, high-quality care our families expect at the same private-pay rate structure, without the inflated fees that often accompany fully licensed therapists at other practices. Your child receives the same evidence-based interventions, the same depth of clinical oversight, and the same continuity of care, because our supervisory structure ensures that every treatment plan, every session note, and every clinical decision is reviewed and guided by a licensed professional.
Pre-licensed associates bring something valuable to the therapeutic relationship: they are early in their clinical careers, deeply invested in each case, and carry smaller caseloads that allow for more focused attention. At Mind by Design, our associates are carefully selected not only for their clinical training but for their alignment with our strengths-based, whole-child philosophy. They participate in weekly individual and group supervision, consult regularly with the educational psychologists on our team, and have access to the full breadth of Mind by Design's interdisciplinary expertise.
For Morgan Hill families who choose private pay, this structure represents genuine value. You receive dedicated, closely supervised therapy from a clinician who has time and energy to invest in your child, backed by the oversight and institutional knowledge of a practice that has served South Bay families since 2020. We also provide superbills upon request for families who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance provider.

Children are not one-size-fits-all, and neither are their therapy sessions. Mind by Design offers 30-, 45-, 60-, and 90-minute session options so that the length of each appointment matches your child's developmental stage, attention capacity, and clinical needs. A six-year-old working on emotional regulation may thrive in focused 30-minute sessions twice a week, while a teenager processing complex social dynamics may need the depth that a 60-minute session provides. Your therapist will recommend the right cadence during the intake process, and adjust it as your child grows and their needs evolve.
Scheduling is designed around the reality of South County family life. Weekday appointments are available from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, so your child can attend after school without rushing or missing activities. For younger school-age children with earlier dismissals or flexible schedules, select daytime slots are also available. We understand that commuting from Gilroy or San Martin adds time to your day, and our scheduling team works to find consistent weekly windows that minimize disruption to your family's routine.
This flexibility extends to how therapy integrates with Mind by Design's other services. If your child also receives literacy intervention, executive function coaching, or speech therapy through our practice, your therapy sessions can be coordinated to reduce total trips and create a streamlined support schedule. One practice, one location, multiple services, organized around your family, not the other way around.

Our Process
STEP ONE
Schedule a Free 15-Minute Consultation
Connect with our Client Relations Specialist for a complimentary phone call. During this brief conversation, we learn about your child's history, current challenges, and what you are hoping therapy will accomplish. We answer your initial questions about our approach, fees, and scheduling. If Mind by Design is the right fit, we schedule your intake session. If another provider or service would serve your child better, we will tell you honestly and provide referrals. This call is obligation-free and typically takes place within a few business days of your inquiry.
STEP TWO
Complete a Comprehensive Intake Session
Your child's first full appointment is an intake session lasting 60 to 90 minutes. Your therapist reviews developmental history, school records, any prior assessment reports (including Mind by Design evaluations), and your family's goals. This session establishes rapport with your child and gives the therapist the clinical foundation to build a personalized treatment plan. Parents are actively involved in part of this session; we want to hear from you as much as from your child.
STEP THREE
Begin Ongoing Therapy Sessions
With the treatment plan in place, your child begins weekly or biweekly therapy sessions at a length that fits their needs: 30, 45, or 60 minutes. Your therapist sets collaborative goals with your family and tracks progress over time, adjusting the approach as your child grows and evolves. Parent check-ins are built into the process so you always know what is happening in session and how to reinforce skills at home. Most families engage in therapy for 8 to 18 months, though duration is always driven by your child's progress.
STEP FOUR
Celebrate Progress and Plan Next Steps
As your child meets their therapeutic goals, your therapist works with you and your child to transition toward less frequent sessions or a planned conclusion. We help you identify signs of continued growth, create a maintenance plan, and connect you with any additional Mind by Design services, such as executive function coaching or literacy intervention, that support your child's long-term success.
Our Approach
At Mind by Design, therapy is never a standalone service bolted onto a menu of offerings.
It is the natural extension of a philosophy that has guided our practice since Jana Parker founded it in 2020: every child deserves to be understood as a whole person, their cognitive profile, their emotional world, their family context, and their daily experience at school.
Our Morgan Hill therapy services are built on this integrated, strengths-based foundation, and they reflect the decades of school-based experience our team brings to private practice.
Our therapeutic methodology draws on evidence-based modalities adapted to each child's unique presentation. For children and teens dealing with anxiety, we incorporate cognitive-behavioral strategies that teach concrete skills for identifying triggers, challenging unhelpful thought patterns, and building tolerance for discomfort. For younger children or those struggling with emotional regulation, we use play-based and expressive techniques that meet the child where they are developmentally, making the therapeutic process feel natural rather than forced. In family sessions, we employ systemic approaches that shift the focus from "the problem child" to the relational patterns that either support or hinder growth for everyone in the household.
What sets our Morgan Hill practice apart is the depth of interdisciplinary collaboration behind every case. Our therapists do not operate in isolation. They consult with the educational psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and academic specialists on the Mind by Design team. If a child's anxiety is rooted in an undiagnosed reading difficulty, we catch it. If a teen's school avoidance is actually driven by an auditory processing challenge that was missed in a prior evaluation, we flag it and connect the family to the right assessment. This is not theory; it is the practical advantage of having therapy embedded within a multidisciplinary practice that has worked with hundreds of South Bay families.
For families in Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and San Martin, this approach means you do not have to become the coordinator of your child's care. You do not have to ferry reports between providers, repeat your story to a new clinician every six months, or wonder whether the left hand knows what the right hand is doing. At Mind by Design, it does, because it is the same team, in the same practice, with the same commitment to your child's success.

No. While many of our therapy families have completed assessments with us, and the clinical continuity is a significant advantage, it is not a prerequisite. Your child can begin therapy at our Morgan Hill office regardless of whether they have been evaluated by Mind by Design, another provider, or have not been assessed at all. If testing would be helpful, your therapist will discuss that with you. Learn more about our psychoeducational evaluations.
-
Mind by Design is a private-pay practice, which means we do not bill insurance directly. You pay for sessions at the time of service. We provide superbills, detailed receipts with the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurance company needs, so you can submit claims for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before starting services.
-
Therapy sessions start at $225 for a 45-minute session. We offer 30-, 45-, 60-, and 90-minute session formats to match your child's age, attention span, and clinical needs. Your therapist will recommend the appropriate session length during the intake process. Intake sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes.
-
Your child will work with one of our dedicated associate therapists at the Morgan Hill office. Our associates are pre-licensed clinicians who work under the direct supervision of Melissa Sorci, LMFT, ensuring every session and treatment plan is guided by experienced, licensed oversight. Associates carry smaller caseloads, which means more focused attention for your child. Meet our team.

Most children attend therapy once per week, though some benefit from biweekly sessions or twice-weekly sessions depending on their needs. The average engagement is 8 to 18 months, but the timeline is always individualized. Your therapist will set collaborative goals with your family and adjust frequency as your child progresses.
