“There is nothing more rewarding than watching a student discover that they can be successful. Whether it is mastering a new skill, gaining confidence, or developing a love of reading, those moments remind me why I chose this profession.”

Reading, writing, spelling support

Hello! I'm Sandy Pugliano. Reading changes lives. It opens doors to learning, builds confidence, and creates opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. Helping students discover their potential as readers has been one of the greatest joys of my career.

My journey in education has taken me from the elementary classroom to roles as a literacy specialist, Reading Recovery® teacher, instructional coach, and educational leader. Along the way, I have had the privilege of supporting students, teachers, and families while deepening my understanding of how children learn to read and thrive as confident, capable learners. What has remained constant throughout my work is my commitment to meeting each child where they are and providing the instruction, encouragement, and support they need to grow.

My professional journey has included roles as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist, instructional coach, and educational leader. While my responsibilities have evolved over time, my focus has remained the same: ensuring that every student receives the support, instruction, and encouragement they need to thrive.

Educational Background

I began my career in education with a Bachelor of Science degree and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and later earned a Master's degree in Literacy followed by Reading Recovery® certification and an Administrative Credential. Over the years, I have continued to deepen my knowledge of literacy instruction, assessment, intervention, and teacher development through ongoing professional learning and collaboration with educators across multiple school settings.

Professional Passion

At the heart of my work is a belief that every child can learn to read when provided with the right instruction at the right time. I am passionate about evidence-based literacy practices that help students build strong foundational skills while also developing a love of reading.

I believe effective literacy instruction is both a science and an art. It requires careful assessment, targeted instruction, and ongoing progress monitoring. It also requires listening to students, understanding their unique strengths and challenges, and celebrating each step of their growth journey.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is helping students experience the moment when reading becomes less of a struggle and more of a source of confidence, curiosity, and joy.

Beyond the Office

When I'm not working with students, I enjoy hiking, skiing, and backpacking with family and friends.  A continuous learner myself, I am an avid reading and am currently learning to watercolor.

Professional Achievements

Throughout my career, I have led literacy initiatives, supported curriculum implementation, coached teachers to implement evidence-based practices, developed professional learning programs, and helped schools strengthen reading instruction and intervention practices. My greatest accomplishment, however, has always been seeing students gain confidence as readers and achieve goals they once thought were out of reach.
