What is Speech & Language Evaluation?

This is a deep dive into your child’s language abilities, which could include listening, speaking, and pragmatic language. We assess speech/articulation deficits, receptive and expressive language, and social/pragmatic differences and how those impact them so our team or other professionals can support their development.

We Provide a Clinical Diagnosis for School Support

We’re licensed to provide a clinical diagnosis for your child if appropriate. Though our goal is not to label your child, it can make them eligible for school accommodations that can dramatically improve learning outcomes.

Intervention-Driven
Reports

Our evaluations are conducted by licensed speech and language pathologists. The in-depth evaluation and report pinpoints the skills your child needs to build for fluent speech and language, and also outlines focal points for instruction so your child can hit the ground running with a clear action plan.

Is a Speech & Language Evaluation Right for Your Child?

This evaluation uncovers the source of many speech and language challenges. It may be right for your child if you suspect they struggle with:

  • Speech articulation

  • Voice

  • Fluency

  • Stuttering

  • Apraxia

  • Receptive language

  • Expressive language

  • Pragmatic language

We tailor our evaluation to look into your specific concerns, but in the process, we may uncover a root cause you didn’t expect.

  • Call, text, or fill out the contact form below to get on our schedule or discuss with our team.

  • No, you do not.

  • This type of assessment is typically offered by practices that are considered out-of-network providers. We will provide a Superbill with CPT codes that are often reimbursed to some extent for this service. You can then check with your insurance company to see whether they will cover part or all of the assessment.

Please refer to the Billing and Insurance page for more information.

  • Assessments typically include obtaining background history, reviewing school records, interviewing with parents, educators, and the child, spontaneous language sampling, and direct formal speech and/or language assessments.

After that, we interpret the assessment results, write a final report, and schedule a follow-up meeting with parents to review the results.

  • The assessment takes 2 sessions, 2-hours each, to complete. If you add psycho-educational evaluations and/or autism testing, it will add additional sessions with other clinicians.

  • We evaluate speech & language as young as 2 years old.

  • We recommend telling them that we’ll do a few activities together and ask them some questions. They just need to give their best effort.

  • Typically parents are not in the room for assessments.

  • Our comprehensive report will be ready for you within three weeks of completing all assessments and interviews.

  • After we finish your child’s report, we will meet with you to review it together and answer your questions. Our goal is to help your child succeed, so we provide a recommended speech therapy treatment plan.
