About
I am passionate about supporting students in developing key skills and knowledge that will empower them to succeed in their academics and in life. I believe that each student can achieve their goals with the right support and tools, and I am dedicated to providing this education and assistance to my students.
I have spent over five years in the education field, primarily working one-on-one with students in a variety of settings. I have instructed children and young adults with moderate-to-severe autism; tutored students with learning differences in math, science, and study skills; and taught English as a second language in an online classroom.
My current position as an Education Support Specialist at Mind by Design enables me to continue serving people who would like a guiding hand in their academic journey. I am proud to be a part of the dedicated and compassionate MBD team as we each play our role in providing holistic and empowering therapeutic services to students and families.
Educational Background:
After growing up in the hills of Santa Cruz, I ventured to Portland, Oregon to attend Lewis & Clark College. I double-majored in Biology and Psychology with a particular focus on neuroscience. I love learning how the brain works, and this curiosity carries over into my educational practice – I want to learn how each of my students thinks about the world, learns new knowledge, and approaches problems. To further develop my skills and understanding of the science of learning, I decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology at San Francisco State University. I will graduate in May 2025 and am excited to apply my knowledge and experience to improve how I support my clients and their families.
Professional Passion:
Supporting neurodiverse students is particularly close to my heart because of my own challenges with ADHD in school and beyond. I know how crucial it is for students to appreciate and utilize their strengths, as well as to identify and work to improve in the areas that are most challenging for them. I’m driven to connect students and families with the resources they need and to teach them useful skills and strategies that can help them succeed in school and in life.
Beyond the Office:
In my free time, you’ll likely find me traveling with my husband, walking our dog, or spending quality time with my parents in Santa Cruz. I also love to play video games and board games with friends, and I believe that play keeps us young in both mind and spirit!
